If you need to capture section stresses more accurately, BEAM188/189 have section integration points which capture the variations better than BEAM4 or BEAM44, which use simple F/A or Mc/I calculations. This information is documented in the ANSYS Theory Manual, Ch. 14, so please refer to that section for details on element formulation and assumptions - doing so may help to get a better understanding of how values are calculated and what assumptions are related to each element instead of assuming that all elements behave in a similar manner.
