Language learning as a hobby?
Quite often that it may not typically come to your mind when picking up an interesting hobby out of the various kinds of activities, but it certainly can be one.
Language learning cannot only be enjoyable but can open you up to a whole new world. There's never been a better time to start learning than right now
The world is more connected than ever before.
- Learning a Foreign Language is Extremely Beneficial
- Learning a new language will use your brain in a way that you otherwise would not, it will strengthen brain functions such as memory, problem-solving, multi-tasking, observation, etc.
- Bilingual and polyglot often score higher in unrelated subjects than their monolingual counterparts. Learning about another culture in their own terms is not only a benefit for its own sake, but it can also help you consider other people’s perspectives in all kinds of situations.
- Learning a New Language isn't As Hard As You Think
- Learning new things can be intimidating. Of course, some languages will be harder than others depending on how similar they are to your official language. Any English speaker will have an easier time with Spanish, German than Japanese, which is the opposite to me since I am Chinese, and Japanese is actually way easier to learn from my perspective.
- However, no matter which language you learn or how naturally good you are at picking it up, it does not have to be the slog that you imagine. You can make learning a much more rewarding experience if you approach it with curiosity, make an effort to learn the logic behind it instead of focusing on rote memorization, choose your methods based on how you learn best and work with the right people.
Languages Help You Stick to a Schedule
Learning things on your own gives you freedom and flexibility that a regular school class would not offer. However, it doesn't mean that you can still make progress if you only do it when you feel like it.
Basically, Seven or eight hours per week on your target language on a regular basis is a good way to stick with it. It doesn't have to be every day, but you do need to focus on it and keep working on your goal, therefore, it helps the person who is learning the target language to stick to the schedule, not only language study, but also other aspects, since your brain has created such habit and brain reaction.
Language learning helps you connect with other people around the world
A long time ago, when I was keen on otaku(宅男), stay at home and playing video games was my everyday activities. It is possible you may meet people online, who come from different countries, therefore, you are able to communicate and learn different languages, as well as to share and learn different cultures.
Finally, Learning a new Language is Just Fun.
Language learning is a cool ass hobby, people think its impressive and think you're a genius!
