vt.许可；准许；使可能；使破例做

                                ①vt.

if someone permits something,they allow it，if they permit you to do something，they allow you to do it。允许，准许。

【例句】if they appear to be under 12，then the doorman is not allow to permit them entry to the film。如果他们看起来不到12岁，门卫不得允许他们进去观看电影。

permit 作“允许；准许”的时候；同义词有：allow/grant/authorize。其中authorize作为准许，是比较偏官方机构的准许。因为authorize这个词就是带有授权的意思。如 congress must authorize the Treasury to pay the bill。国会必须授权财政部偿还债务。

应用场景】在口语中如果我们说某件事不允许做，或者某些东西不能带进某个场所，我们就可以用permit来表示：

【例句】 Excuse me ，handbags are not permitted inside the supermarket.  抱歉，您不能把包带进超市。

【例句】Flash photograph is not permitted here。这里不允许用闪关灯拍照。
